Medicare increase to fund National Disability Insurance Scheme

May 2013

The Government has announced that the Medicare levy will increase from 1.5% to 2% from 1 July 2014. The additional hypothecated levy will go towards the national disability insurance scheme, DisabilityCare Australia, to fund the reforms.

The Government has already reached agreement with NSW, SA and the ACT to deliver DiabilityCare in full and to launch in VIC, Tas and the NT. Full details can be found in the media release from Treasury. For more information about the NDIS, visit www.ndis.gov.au.
