ASIC boosts privacy for home-based business
October 2013ASIC has announced changes that will ease privacy concerns for home-based business owners, following changes to the National Business Names Register.
From now on, home-based businesses will be able to opt-out of registering a physical address, which previously made the details of their home address public. Instead, they will now be able to register a PO address instead. According to the Council of Small Business of Australia, there are between 800,000 and 1.2 million home based businesses in Australia.
The problem emerged last year when the Labor Government introduced the business names register that required a physical address be included as part of registering a business name.
The change won't happen automatically. Please contact us on 02 9957 4033 to change your details on your ASIC registration.
